I finally got to watch Gully Boy, the much awaited movie. With Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt as lead roles, Gully Boy takes you on a journey of a boy living in the slums of Mumbai, surrounded by family problems and secretly dreaming of becoming a rapper. While few people, including my mom, thought the topic of a struggling artist was not anything undiscovered and many movies have already been scripted around this but to me this felt like a much needed reminder for everybody who have given up on their dreams that we need to believe.
Movies like 3 idiots, Tamasha & Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani have continuously conveyed the message of following your heart and so did Gully Boy. The song βek hi raastaβ perfectly describes the circle of our lives, how everybody is made to follow the same path and most of us without even knowing where we are headed, keep walking the unknown roads. Some of us who dare to dream are either manipulated with idea of it being impossible or just simply restricted to chase them. Some of us lack the resources and some the guts. And hence begins the belief in the lie βthis is how life isβ.
But just like Gully Boy, we have to accept who we are, become bold enough to chase our dreams and keep fighting for what we believe in.
The real world is harsh but who are we if not ourselves?
